The 2020 Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society (APOS) Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on the 20th September via a virtual meeting. This meeting would have been held during the 9th International Orthodontic Congress (IOC) in Yokohama, Japan. However, due to travel restrictions during the Covid 19 pandemic, the 9th IOC have been changed to a virtual format.
The 2020 APOS AGM is the first AGM to be held virtually. It was attended by the APOS executive committee members and presidents of the affiliate societies. The meeting was chaired by Dr Eric Liou, Vice-President of the APOS on behalf of Dr Zhou Yanheng (President of APOS), whom unfortunately, could not attend the meeting.
The AGM commenced with passing of reports from the office bearers and the various sub-committees. The APOS members bid farewell and congratulated Dr Niklesh Vaid as he handed over the reign as editor-in-chief for APOS Trends to Dr Eric Liou. Dr Eric Liou in turn updated us on finalised the planning for the 3rd Residents’ Forum. Dr Takashi Ono was then invited to give us a briefing on the upcoming 9th IOC and 12th APOC which will be conducted via a virtual format.
Korean Association of Orthodontists Executive Committee Member, Dr Dong-hwa Chung proceeded to present the current plans for the 13th Asian Pacific Orthodontic Conference which will be held in Seoul, Korea in 2022. The 2021 APOS Annual General Meeting is planned to be conducted in Nepal and Dr Dasrathe Kafle (ODOAN ECM) explained the current situation in his home country. They are hopeful to continue to hold the AGM but will need to keep us updated if there are any change in plans due to the Covid19 pandemic.
Dr Eric Liou thanked Dr Prashant Zaveri for his contribution as APFORE Chairman. As Dr Prashant steps down, Dr Tanan Juraprakorn was elected as the next APFORE Chairperson. This was followed by the bidding to host the 14th APOC 2024 by Dr Eric Liou on behalf of the Taiwan Association of Orthodontists.
