The 2021 Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society (APOS) Annual General Meeting (AGM) was conducted on the 15th May 2021 via a virtual meeting. This meeting was originally planned to be held in conjunction with the 12th Annual International Conference of the Orthodontic and Dentofaicial Orthopedic Association of Nepal (ODOAN), Kathmandu Nepal. However, due to the constant changes in travel restrictions from the Covid19 pandemic, both meetings had to be organized virtually.
Dr Eric Liou, president of the APOS, kicked off the AGM by welcoming all the APOS Executive Committee Members (ECM) and Observers. A total of 39 participants joined the meeting including a special invitation for Dr Takashi Ono, Chairman of the 9th International Orthodontic Conference (IOC). We also had the pleasure of inviting the president of the Cambodian Association of Orthodontists (CAO), Professor Mom Sovannrithy as an observer for the AGM.
The AGM commenced with the passing of reports from the office bearers. The various sub-committees which included the Journal APOS Trends and Website each presented their own reports for the year 2020. Dr Tanan Juraprakorn, Chairman of the APFORE committee then updated us on the work of the Foundation and the proposed plans to continue raising funds for APFORE.Professor Takashi Ono, Chairman of the 9th IOC, proceeded to present his report for the post-conference of the 12th APOC and this was followed by an update by Dr Dong-Hwa Chung (Koreans Association of Orthodontists’ ECM) on the 13th APOC and the 4th Residents’ Forum. Finally, Dr Spinx Lu (Taiwan Association of Orthodontists ECM) gave a progress report on the 14th APOC. It was certainly very heart-warming to be able to virtually meet all the other APOS fellows. However, I am sure everyone looks forward to the day when we can finally meet physically and celebrate the APOS sprit in person.
