May 27, 2025

The 2024 TAO APOC concluded with an overwhelming sense of accomplishment, unity, and inspiration. Held from December 2 to 5 in the vibrant city of Taipei, Taiwan, this major international orthodontic congress represented a powerful convergence of global expertise and youthful innovation. It marked the 37th Annual Meeting of the Taiwan Association of Orthodontists (TAO), the 14th Asian Pacific Orthodontic Congress (APOC), and the 5th APOS Residents’ Forum—all under the unifying theme, “Embrace 3C: Connection, Communication, and Creation.”

Hosted at TaiNEX 2, a modern and well-equipped venue in Taipei, the congress welcomed 1,639 attendees from 36 countries, including 1,446 orthodontic professionals and 193 industry sponsors. The event featured a diverse and dynamic program that combined cutting-edge scientific content with vibrant cultural exchange. From seasoned specialists to emerging voices in the field, every participant contributed to a shared vision of progress in orthodontics.

The congress opened with great energy through the TAO-APOS Joint Residents’ Forum, a platform showcasing the next generation of orthodontists. A total of 73 residents from 14 countries presented their research and clinical case studies to an audience of more than 400 professionals. These presentations reflected both academic rigor and creative problem-solving, with 34 research reports and 39 clinical cases drawing praise from peers and mentors alike. The forum culminated in the presentation of Excellence Awards to six outstanding residents, recognizing their innovative contributions to the field.

Further enriching the scientific depth of the congress was the APOS Oration, delivered by Dr. Bryce Lee of Singapore. His thoughtful address, titled “APOS and Orthodontics—Our Past and Our Future,” reflected on the remarkable evolution of orthodontics in the Asia-Pacific region and offered insights into how the community can grow stronger through shared vision and leadership. His message resonated deeply with the congress theme, inspiring attendees to consider not only where orthodontics has been, but where it can—and should—go next. Throughout the event, 47 internationally recognized speakers delivered lectures covering a broad spectrum of contemporary orthodontic topics. From digital treatment planning to new biomechanical strategies, their expertise spurred meaningful discussions and encouraged fresh thinking. One particularly energizing component was the Rising Stars Session, which spotlighted 19 promising orthodontists under the age of 45. Nominated by their national associations, these individuals shared innovative research and clinical approaches that pointed to the future of the profession.

In addition to its scientific achievements, the congress served as an important administrative milestone. Key events included the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the APOS Presidents’ Breakfast Meeting, the APOS Annual General Meeting, and the TAO General Assembly. These gatherings gave members of both associations the chance to reflect on recent progress and chart a clear course for the future. The APOS Trends in Orthodontics Awards were also presented, honoring outstanding academic contributions within the community.

Beyond academia, the social side of the congress brought participants together in meaningful and memorable ways. Residents’ Night, the Welcome Party, and the Gala Dinner offered moments of cultural celebration, friendship, and relaxation after long days of scientific exchange. A photography contest added a creative dimension to the program, highlighting the personal stories and shared experiences that make events like this so enriching.

The essence of the congress was beautifully encapsulated in its theme, Embrace 3C. Connection was evident in the bonds formed among participants from 36 countries, fostering a global community united by a shared passion for orthodontics. Communication thrived through dynamic exchanges of ideas, experiences, and expertise, breaking down barriers and building bridges across cultures. Creation was at the heart of every session, where innovative thinking and creative problem-solving illuminated new pathways for clinical excellence and research advancement. By the time the congress concluded, the values embedded in its theme—Connection, Communication, and Creation—had truly come to life.

The success of the 2024 TAO APOC would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication of the organizing committee, volunteers, and sponsors, whose behind-the-scenes efforts ensured every detail was handled with care. Taipei’s dynamic spirit and cultural richness provided the perfect backdrop, welcoming guests with warmth and inspiring landscapes.

Looking ahead, the 2024 TAO APOC leaves us not only with new knowledge and global friendships but also with renewed motivation to push the boundaries of what orthodontics can achieve. With each gathering, we continue building a stronger, more connected future—one that embraces innovation, values collaboration, and places excellence at its core.
