The Australian Orthodontic Congress

September 1, 2019

Written by Melanie Berenger, Communications Manager, Australian Society of Orthodontists

The Australian Orthodontic Congress is held every two years and it is the premier education event for the orthodontic sector in Australia.

Last year, the 26th Australian Orthodontic Congress was held at the International Convention Centre in Sydney (9-12 March 2018) and attracted more than 1100 delegates, including 105 international attendees. The Congress is known for its outstanding program and for attracting leading experts in the dental sector who deliver innovative and stimulating presentations.

The Congress provides both scientific and auxiliary streams and at the last congress, the scientific program featured interesting topics ranging from ‘Treatment Planning Difficult Cases’ to ‘Skeletal Anchorage System - 13 Years Later. Has it Delivered?’. The auxiliary stream tackled fascinating and useful practice areas such as ‘How to keep your clinic on time’, ‘Navigating your Way to a Smooth Sailing Crew’, ‘Running and understanding clinical reports’ and ‘Avoiding complaints.

Two days before the congress, we invited some speakers who arrived earlier to present lectures to post graduate students from all the Australian and New Zealand postgraduate disciplines at the Student Meeting. The day before the Congress, a well-attended series of industry workshops were organised along with a pre-congress auxiliary workshop.

After three days of engaging and thought-provoking presentations, the scientific program concluded with a lively panel discussion on ‘Clinical Challenges in the 21st Century’. With more than 40 exhibitors, there were plenty of opportunities for attendees to explore the latest technology and services available in the sector. In our next edition, the 27th Australian Orthodontic Congress (2020) will be held in the beautiful location of Cairns in far north Queensland.

Fringed by the Barrier Reef and surrounded by tropical rainforest, Australia’s most popular and scenic destination is waiting to welcome you and your staff.
