The Association of Orthodontists (Singapore) Congress (AOSC) 2019 was held at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore and brought in a total of almost a thousand attendees hailing from all corners of the world. This was a remarkable growth of 20% from the previous congress in 2017.

The focus for this congress was to provide a strong scientific programme and we managed to include impressive key-note speakers such as Prof. David Sarver, Prof. Birte Melsen and Prof. Rolf Behrents. The AOSC 2019 exhibition saw 30 exhibitors involving leading orthodontics companies such as Invisalign, Ormco, OrthoPulse, 3M and Henry Schein. Over one hundred different makes of orthodontic products were displayed, each highlighting the current innovations and technological advancements in the industry.

The AOSC also played host to the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society’s Annual General Meeting and gathered all 19 members of the Affiliated Society. It was a busy conference as the AOSC committe also organised its first Residents’ Symposium which was attended by over eighty participants. The residents had a chance to share their thoughts and discussions and were also able to tour the newly opened National University Centre for Oral Health Singapore (NUCOHS).

There were a few social events during the AOSC. Amongst them was the popular Welcome Reception held at the S.E.A Aquarium, Resorts World Sentosa. Over food and wine, delegates were able to mingle amongst the sea creatures at the Aquarium.

We also held a Gardens by the Bay morning run and a President’s dinner for the speakers and our guests.

“We are humbled by the overwhelming response received at our sold-out workshops and staggering delegate numbers. Additionally, the steady growth of delegates attending from international countries also marks a great achievement for AOSC. We are proud to have grown from a locally reputable show to one that is increasingly being recognized internationally within the orthodontic community,”
- Dr Mohan, President, Association of Orthodontists (Singapore)

This AOSC, we pledged to do something different for the society and engaged in AOS’s first charity initiative. We organised a series of pre-events to raise money for the Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF) and to add to that, the AOSC have pledged to donate $5 for every registered delegate. I am pleased to say that we managed to raise a grand total SGD $21,000.

As an Association, we harnessed the strength of the orthodontic community to benefit society through committing to raise funds for the Children’s Cancer Foundation. From our modest beginnings back in the days, we have since scaled greater heights by attracting over 900 attendees and expanding our exhibition space. Riding on this wave of success, we will strive to continue to develop the show alongside the community. Lastly, I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves at AOSC 2019 and would like to welcome you to our next congress in 2021!
