APOS President's Message

Welcome to the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society.

It doesn’t seem like six months since our last AGM during the extremely successful TAO- 14th APOC In Taipei, Taiwan, in December 2024. I want to thank The Taiwanese Association of Orthodontists for their hard work, and inspirational leadership, that made our combined meeting so eventful. I believe the number of delegates far surpassed the anticpated number, with numerous colleagues from within the APOS family attending.

As well as a high quality programme, the social events were also a standout. It was an amazing time seeing the participants interacting and sharing experiences, including a group sing-along on stage involving various VIPs; that memory will linger for a long time.

Our upcoming AGM will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in July 2025, We are very privileged to be hosted by the Vietnam Association of Orthodontists, in conjunction with their 7th Annual meeting and the 16th World Implant Orthodontic Conference. Each executive member from our affiliated Associations/ Societies will be in attendance, where we continue on with forwarding on the aims of APOS.

The APOS Office Bearers, along with the Association of Orthodontists, Singapore, are preparing for the 15th APOC in December 2026. This will follow a similar format to the APOC on Taipei, with an APOS Oration; highly regarded international speakers; absolutely stunning social events, and also incorporate a residents Forum. This forum has been a runaway success, with residents from the various Asian Pacific postgraduate programmes meeting to present both clinical and research topics, and mingling afterwards at highly successful social events; lifelong friendships invariably result.

I strongly encourage you to attend these congresses/ forums; they are an enriching experience that further exemplifies the ethos of our Asian Pacific Orthodontic community- we are all one family.

In addition, the APFORE- Asian Pacific Foundation for Orthodontic Research and Education- is continuing to raise funds, and continue with its highly sought out Zoom meetings on treatment for Cleft Lip and Palate conditions. The next discussion will be on 1 August 2025, with details available online.

To continue on with the education theme, the APOS Trends in Orthodontic – our Society Journal- continually produces high quality articles, published quarterly, and achieving a high impact factor. I want to thank the contributing editors and reviewers who spend a considerable amount of time to keep the Journal at the forefront of orthodontic research.

From the above you can see there is an extremely busy cohort of colleagues keeping orthodontic education and research at the highest global level within the Asian Pacific region.

See you either in Vietnam in 2025, or Singapore in 2026

Yours in APOS
Kieran O’Neill
President
